Begins and Ends With Family - an eBook
by Jo Ann Wentzel

If
you are thinking about becoming a foster parent, you must read this
book! The author has over 30 years of experience as a youth advocate
working as a foster parent, Montessori school assistant, daycare
provider and scout leader. She is a noted speaker and educator
helping parents and foster parents to better understand the children
in their care.
The
book goes into great detail about what it means to be a foster
parent and exactly how to integrate the children into your family.
Wentzel will guide you through what to do when a foster child first
arrives, to how to handle your emotions when a child must return to
an abusive home. She offers first hand experiences on how to care
for children who have been sexually abused and those who have
witnessed horrible violence in their own homes.
Also
discussed in the book are parenting skills that all of us can brush
up on. "Parenting is not an exact science" states Wentzel,
but she offers a list of qualifications that she has found in the
best caretakers including consistency and the ability to put the
needs of the child ahead of your own as the parent. She offers a
wonderful list "Ingredients of Good Parenting" which
provides a strong base for raising well rounded children.
The
author does not pretend to have all the answers, but offers a
comprehensive guide filled with useful suggestions acquired from
years of hands on work with children from a variety of
backgrounds.
Her
courageous and selfless dedication to children is something to be
admired. The stories she has shared inspired me and made me realize
how important the job of parenting is.
