Book Review: Simple Loving
Written by Janet Luhrs
(Reviewed by Catie Gosselin of WomanLinks.com)
| There are a million 'how to' books on the market promising to improve your
relationship over night. Very few focus on finding enjoyment and
fulfillment in one's self fist. Fewer still, are based on paring down and
simplifying your life to increase the intimacy of your relationship. Ms.
Luhrs, author of The Simple Living Guide has done a masterful job of
filling this niche. |

Using the principles of simplicity, Ms. Luhrs describes a lifestyle that
honors both the Self and one's Relationship. In an age where relationships
often dwindle down to a few silent hours together in front of the television or
competing schedules, "Simple
Loving" offers are refreshing alternative.
Under the premise that 'less is more' it is possible to have more time,
energy and enthusiasm for one's partner and relationship. Without keeping
all the daily 'stuff' as a primary focus, one is able to find joy in their
life and in their relationship more easily. In a nutshell, this book
advocates clearing all the clutter, material, financial, spiritual, and
replacing it with a life based on appreciation and gratitude. It is the
issue of recognizing want vs. need, and finding satisfaction in what one
already has.
Ms. Luhr interviewed several couples who practice such mindfulness in their
relationships. From creating a welcoming, yet clutter-free home to honoring
a partner's communication style, these couples share their journey to a
more meaningful lifestyle. No matter your background or beliefs, it is easy
to see how these suggestions might be applied.
One of the most powerful points brought up in "Simple
Loving" is that there are three 'people' in a marriage, the wife, the husband and the
relationship. Keeping the good of the relationship as the primary consideration, honors your
commitment, as well as your partner, without ignoring your own need for fulfillment.
"Simple
Loving" is well written and an amazing resource. Whether you have
been married for twenty-five years, about to marry or in a committed
relationship, Ms. Luhr's book is a gem.
