Ann Crittenden takes a new and
intelligent approach to the topic of motherhood and how it is viewed
in our society today. She argues that motherhood and the
responsibility of raising children are revered, but mothers themselves
are not. They are often the victim of discrimination and
disadvantaged by our communities.
Ms. Crittenden argues that it is unfair that most
childcare is excluded from the gross national product and that at-home
mothers are not counted in the workforce. She offers compelling
interviews with mothers that support her theories and gives several
examples of situations where children and families would have
benefited had our society given more respect to the role of
motherhood.
As a traditional person by nature, I did question
some of the theories supported by Ms. Crittenden, but I can also say
that her examples are fascinating and should be read by today's world.
