What
If?
(Reviewed by Catie Gosselin

by A.H. Benjamin
All the animals on Buttercup farm are
quite upset. Rumor has it a kangaroo is arriving this very day.
No on is quite sure what a kangaroo it, but they are all worried.
Each animal is worried that the kangaroo will be 'better' at what they
each do best. The rooster worries the kangaroo will crow louder
and he'll be out of a job. The dog fears the kangaroo will herd
sheep more efficiently and he'll end up in the kennels. The cat
wonders if the kangaroo will catch more mice, leaving her to become a
stray. All in all, it is a very worrisome situation.
That is until the animals realize that in all their worrying, they
forgot to keep an eye on the children. The all search high and
low for puppies, chicks, lambs, but can't find a one. That is
until a friendly new babysitter, her pouch bulging with farm babies,
comes bouncing over the hill. All worries are forgotten,
and a new friend is made.
This is a charming book that reassures kids of their own uniqueness.
Each of us is special, each of us has 'something' unique that no one,
not even a mysterious kangaroo, can replace.
