Taming the Gas Prices

We depend on our cars as our number one mode of transportation. As the gas prices continue to rise at the pumps, here are some money-saving ideas for reducing your daily fuel expenses.
1. Public transportation. Check the current prices for monthly passes. If the passes are considerably cheaper than driving yourself, try taking the bus or train for a month. Can you walk to the bus or train station? If not, remember that you have to count the added transportation costs into your budget.
2. Peddle power. The bicycle is still a popular mode of alternate transportation. Do you already own a bicycle? Maybe you can update it with some saddlebags or a basket for carrying your parcels. There are also new cushioned seats available that can make your ride a breeze on those longer journeys.
3. Ride sharing. Current gasoline prices are affecting most parents who have to work. Your neighbors and friends are feeling the pinch at the gas pumps too. Look for co-workers or local business employees who can share rides with you. A little flexibility in work hours can bring big savings to your pocket.
4. Combine your errands. Every time you start your car, it costs money. Try making fewer trips to town and combine your errands into one trip. There may be times when you can even walk between stores without having to use the car.
5. Delivery services. Give your local grocery store, pharmacy, or retailer a call. Many of the stores now provide free delivery service. Why not take advantage of their services when trying to reduce your transportation costs?
6. Shop the Internet. The variety of products is almost endless on the Internet today. It is only limited by your imagination. Are you almost out of postage stamps? They can be conveniently ordered on the Internet and delivered to your home.
7. Foot power. Buy yourself some comfortable shoes and a backpack. Shopping on foot can be a rewarding experience. The sites and sounds are a positive change from home chores or the TV. A little added exercise can bring you better health and more energy for the other tasks that await you.
