In order to keep our costs down and still have some fun family gatherings for the kids
I came up with the idea of hosting a potluck and having all the kids young and old drop off 3-5 pieces of art work (any medium) a few days before the gathering and my husband and I will display them throughout the house and create an art gallery with their work

We are planning to host it around 6pm for dinner time and as it gets dark, we'll light some tea-light candles or twinle lights outside and give it a fun vibe in the backyard and place lounge chairs all around in small groupings for everyone to go out and enjoy the stars and a cool drink. I figure it brings the family together, gives us something share and have a good meal
