The Stay-At-Home
Boredom Busters
By Laurie Neal
Get moving! Don't let winter leave you with extra
pounds to shed before swimsuit season.
Fall is in full swing and winter is right around the corner. Many
of you, like me, may be dreading the seemingly endless days cooped up
in the house.
Spring and summer brought picnics, long walks, days at the park and
trips to the zoo. Winter will bring with it snow, ice and bitterly
cold temperatures. The boredom busters we've put together here will
fight even the most severe case of cabin fever.
Take up a new hobby. Last winter I discovered the joys of
scrapbooking. Now I'm hooked! I haven't had much time to work on my
pages over the summer, but now that the cold weather is here I can dig
back in. My 2 year old helps with the stickers and stamps and even
designs some of his own pages. My husband loves to come home and see
the finished work. Some evenings we all scrap together.
Get moving! Don't let winter leave you with extra pounds to shed
before swimsuit season. Get up and get busy! Turn on the music and
dance, chase the kids around the house, or if the weather is
cooperative head outside for some fun. The kids will love the play and
you'll get a work out.
Old fashioned home cooking - just like mom used to make. Cooking is
not on everyone's list of fun things to do, but if you make a family
project out of it you might actually enjoy it! Enlist the kids and
make a good old fashioned meal. Dig out the recipes grandma gave you
and you can keep the family traditions going!
Catch up on your reading. If you're like me you don't even have
time to think about reading during the warmer months. What better way
to spend an afternoon than curled up with a good book and a mug of hot
cocoa? Get the kids their own books and mugs, or snuggle up together
to read.
Shape up and ship out. Go through those closets and get rid of that
junk you've been hanging on to! You may stumble across things you'd
though were gone or find some great trinkets for the kids. I love
digging through the boxes in the basement and reliving old memories
through the treasures buried down there.
Dress up and play pretend! Who says dress up is just for kids? Lose
yourself in a game of pretend. Dress up in those fancy clothes saved
for special occasions and have a fashion show in your living room. The
kids can model also, or M.C. the event - you're bound to have a ball!
While you're being a kid again - dig out those blocks, puzzles and
toy trucks. Get down on the floor and play with your kids like you
when you were 6!
