Make Time to Enjoy the Child You Love
by Gene Wirkus

Sit down regularly to read or tell your child a story. I have been doing this for about twenty years and it has been very helpful in developing a bond with my children.

There are many things in life that need our time and attention. But, NO THING should keep us from setting aside a regular time to be with our children. There are plenty of ways to spend quality time with our children. I would like to suggest one way that's easy, enjoyable and can be quick if it needs to be.

Children love stories. Sit down regularly to read or tell your child a story. I have been doing this for about twenty years and it has been very helpful in developing a bond with my children. Even as adults they look back and fondly remember the stories I told them at bed time. When I was out of town they insisted that I call them at bed time to tell them a story.

This sounds easy but it's not. You know as well as I do, that the demands of jobs, household chores, etc., can squeeze our children out. It really takes a commitment on our part. To motivate ourselves we need to remember an important fact, our children are only young once and when that time is gone, we can't bring it back.

We don't always have the luxury of setting aside a large block of time to spend with our children. For those times a short story is helpful. There are plenty of places to get short stories but for one reason or another we don't always take advantage of these resources. I have developed a service to help parents with this problem.

I help parents remember to take time for their children by e-mailing them a story once a week to read to their children. It's a short story and takes about two or three minutes to read. But that two or three minutes on a regular basis, becomes a bonding agent. The child looks forward to and treasures that regular time together.

I have been publishing these stories for about three years. You can obtain more information by going to my web site or e-mailing me for more information. There is no charge for the stories and I will not sell or give your address to anyone else.
