5 Things I Wish Someone Had Told Me as a New Mom

Becoming a new mom is a life-changing experience filled with joy, challenges, and countless learning opportunities. Through my journey as a mother of two, I’ve come to appreciate the wisdom that could have made the transition smoother. Here are five things I wish someone had told me when I first embarked on this incredible adventure.

1. You can ask for help!

Motherhood is a journey best shared. It might seem daunting at first, but reaching out for assistance is a strength, not a weakness. The support system you build can be invaluable. Friends and family are often more willing to help than you might expect.

Just like a safety net, a helping hand can prevent overwhelm. Embrace the community around you and remember, asking for help is a powerful tool in your parenting toolkit. You’re never alone in this. Cherish the connections you make. They can make all the difference.

2. Keep taking your prenatal vitamins

Continuing with your prenatal vitamins post-birth might not be the first thing on your mind. However, it’s crucial for replenishing nutrients your body needs. These vitamins support both your recovery and your baby’s development, especially if breastfeeding.

Think of it as a small but significant step towards maintaining your health. Staying on top of your vitamin intake doesn’t just benefit you; it benefits your entire family. Your well-being should always be a priority, and these vitamins are a part of that.

3. Trust your instincts

Your intuition as a mother is a powerful guide. Though advice will come from all directions, your instincts are uniquely attuned to your baby’s needs. Trusting yourself can be empowering.

4. Eat a ton of healthy food!

Nourishing your body with wholesome foods is essential. Eating well fuels you with the energy needed to tackle the demands of motherhood. An array of fresh fruits, vibrant vegetables, and lean proteins can do wonders.

It’s not just about you anymore—your family benefits when you’re at your best. Prioritizing nutrition helps you feel more energetic and balanced.

Make meal times a joyful and healthful experience for yourself. A healthy mom is a happy mom. Your vitality is a gift to your children.

5. Ignore unsolicited advice

As a new mom, well-meaning advice will often be thrust upon you. While some of it can be helpful, it’s important to discern what aligns with your values. Not every piece of advice is applicable to your unique situation.

Listen graciously, but feel free to set boundaries. You know your life and your child better than anyone else.

Politeness paired with confidence allows you to sift through the noise. Hold onto the wisdom that resonates, and kindly let go of the rest.
